Photos from Our Trip to Standing Rock
As many of you know, several members of our community traveled to Standing Rock to help our friends who are there on the ground and assess how we can best support the movement going forward. We have stories similar to many of the other people who have supported the protection of water that include detainment by police and weathering blizzard conditions as well as the overwhelming feeling of unity within a cooperative commitment to stand up for what is right for human beings and the world.
We share the common feeling that we have come together to draw a line in the sand. This line in the sand is drawn on the collective outrage that we are all confronted with in the devastating environmental destruction, blatant human rights violations and the global corporate corruption, that have become the prevailing conditions of life on our planet. The culmination of this environmental, human and organizational malfeasance has manifested before the eyes of the world at Standing Rock, and while Standing Rock is only one of many places where these kinds of abuses are occurring, it is here that many of us are making our stand.
On Sunday, December 4, 2016 the United States Army Corps of Engineers announced that they will not approve an easement that would allow the DAPL to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. As alternative routes are proposed, and environmental impact statements undergo public comment periods, we are now faced with the question of how to support ongoing efforts to protect water supplies, human health and safety, and the health and safety of our planet for all species.
Many of us can not leave our responsibilities and jobs to be onsite at the location where these atrocities are taking place, and for those of you who feel as we do, we are asking you support in the way that you can by donating to this fundraiser.
Our goal is two-fold. We will raise money to support:
1. Broadcast sovereignty via advanced communications equipment.
2. Two bring supplies and relief to our friends who are directly fighting to protect our environment on the front lines.
Broadcast sovereignty supports human rights and environmental safety.
The majority of funds raised will go directly into the Oceti Sakowin account with an earmark for equipment needed to fortify and expand the Oceti Sakowin communications network and it’s resilience.
Numerous human rights violations, illegal law enforcement tactics and violence have been captured on video by water protectors and their supporters. Cellular, Wi-fi, and satellite communications technologies are vulnerable to both jamming and surveillance. An encrypted communications system is a solution that would add reliability and security, helping to ensure the safety of the water protectors.
Supplies and relief to our friends
The fight will be ongoing and no one knows how long this will last. Our friends from the Rosebud reservation, including Chief Crowdog, as well as friends and relatives who are members of the Indigenous Youth Council, need financial support to fulfill their mission of protection. Simple things like gas money, food, warm clothing and shelter are needed to fortify their resolve. Many of these people are leaving their jobs and going without pay to fulfill their commitments. We hope to raise funds to support their sacrifice over the duration of this struggle.
About US
Our community has been supporting human and indigenous rights, and the inspiration of mindfulness and conscious behavior for more than 35 years. In 1995 we started a volunteer based non-profit called Circulos to act as a public container for our efforts. Circulos is a Non-Profit 501C-3 organization dedicated to inspiring greater consciousness on the planet through education, support of indigenous peoples and service projects, and is a registered charity with GuideStar. Circulos has worked with indigenous people in the United States and Mexico, particularly with our friends and relatives on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota, for over 35 years.
We are a small community based organization with personal relationships to the people who are at Standing Rock, and a personal passion to see justice prevail on behalf of the environment and human beings involved.
Please join us in support of this cause.
